All members of the Police Department receive advanced training in the areas of criminal investigations, crime scene processing, traffic enforcement, waterborne drug interdiction, and marine safety and conservation law enforcement. All crimes committed in the city are investigated by members of the Key Colony Beach Police Department. In cases requiring extensive follow up or additional resources we receive assistance from the Monroe County Sheriff`s Office.
The Police Department is proactive in the areas of community policing, crime suppression,traffic law enforcement, and the enforcement of city codes.
Chief Robert Petrick Robert Petrick has been an officer with the Key Colony Beach Police Department since August of 1991. He was promoted to Sergeant in October of 1993 and promoted to Chief of Police in January of 2000. Chief Petrick began his law enforcement carreer in April of 1983 as a Monroe County Deputy Sheriff. He has also worked at the Sunrise Police Department.
In addition to his administrative duties you can see the Chief patrolling the city streets most mornings and afternoons.
In his time off, Robert spends time with his wife and son as well as woodworking and landscaping. He also enjoys diving, fishing and target shooting.
Sergeant Lindsay Birklund Lindsay Birklund has been an officer with the Key Colony Beach Police Officer since March of 1998. He was promoted to Sergeant in March of 2004. Sergeant Birklund began his law enforcement carreer in February of 1986 as a Monroe County Deputy Sheriff.
In addition to his patrol duties, Sergeant Birklund assists with some of the administrative functions of the police department. He can also be seen patrolling the water surrounding our island city.
Lindsay spends his time off running and working out as well as playing the guitar. His goal is to stay healthy and happy. Officer Kris DiGiovanni Kris DiGiovanni has been an officer with the Key Colony Beach Police Department since July of 2005. He began his law enforcement carreer in September of 2001 as an investigator with Florida`s Department of Children and Families. Ofc DiGiovanni has also worked at the Monroe County Sheriff`s Department.
Officer DiGiovanni is assigned as the Community Services Officer as well as our Marine Patrol Officer.
Kris spends his time off kayaking, fishing and target shooting. Officer Kyles Murphy Kyles Murphy has been an officer with the Key Colony Beach Police Department since October of 2005. Officer Murphy began his law enforcemnet carreer in December of 1983 as a Key West Police Officer. Officer Murphy has also worked at the Florida Atlantic Police Department and the Monroe County Sheriff`s Department.
In addition to his patrol duties, Ofc Murphy serves as the police department`s recruiter and background investigator. Ofc Murphy is currently in training to qualify as a marine patrol officer in our department.
Kyles spends his free time exercising and weightlifting.
Officer Elliott BaconValdez Elliott BaconValdez has been an officer with the Key Colony Beach Police Department since March of 2006. Officer BaconValdez began his law enforcement career in April 1991 as a Monroe County Deputy Sheriff.
In addition to his patrol duties, Officer BaconValdez is the department`s fleet maintenance officer and research officer.
Elliott spends his free time with his wife and children as well as health and fitness and playing and coaching all types of sports. Officer John "JC" Smith JC Smith has been an officer with the Key Colony Beach Police Department since August of 2006. Officer Smith began his law enforcemnet carreer in August of 1988 as a Monroe County Deputy Sheriff. Officer Smith has also worked at the Key West Police Department and Seminole County Sheriff`s Department.
In addition to his patrol duties, Ofc Smith serves as the police department`s training officer. Ofc Smith is currently in training to qualify as a marine patrol officer in our department.
JC spends his free time fishing,more fishing and when not fishing he is an avid movie-goer.
